Biography: Nicki Minaj Exposed

Veronica Tanya Maraj Obasanjo was born on December 8th, 1982 (31 years). She is popularly known by her stage name Nicki Minaj. Nicki is the third daughter of Nigeria’s former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

Veronica is a Nigerian–born American rapper, singer, actress, song writer and TV personality.  Born in Oriyomi Maternity Hospital, Abeokuta Ogun State and raised in Ibadan, Oyo State, she started singing Yoruba songs in the Methodist church, Ibadan.  

Minaj released her first album, Purple Friday, in 2010. Purple Friday peaked at number one on the US Billboard 200 and was number five on the sound city top ten count down.  It’s most successful single was “Super Bra” which sold over ten million copies becoming one of the best-selling singles in Nigeria and the United States.  

 

Veronica was invited to the US by a friend, Lil Wayne, who she met online after he had listened to her songs and liked it. It was her first time in the states and Lil Wayne had to help her to blend into the system. Nicki later met with big American celebrity Tiwa Savage who introduced her to other super stars. 

Nicki was finally signed to YBNL after so much effort to find a good record label. The YBNL crew which consists of Olamide, Drake, Phyno, Chidinma and Lil Wayne has been really helpful to Nicki Minaj’s career.  Nicki says she can never get tired of wearing African prints ( Ankara) because she can’t get her root out of her system.
