The Nigerian population commission (NPC) has stated that the
country’s population might double by 2014 due to the strike of the university
lecturers. The academic staff union of universities embarked on an indefinite
strike four months ago and this has kept many students idle for four months.
Statistics from maternity clinics across the country have
shown that sixty percent of all female students currently enrolled in public
universities are now pregnant due to the ASUU strike.
The remaining forty
percent are on the verge of getting pregnant within the next two weeks.
Reports have also shown that ninety percent of the male
students are now expectant fathers and thirty percent of these expectant fathers
have more than four girls pregnant for each of them. Only two percent of their
baby mamas are fellow students which means that the remaining eighty eight
percent are not students, they are neighbours, friends, or even strangers.
With these statistics, the NPC warns that the country’s population
might double by the year 2014 and this might pose a big problem for the
nation’s economy.
